Welcome to the SGA Blog!

This coming week we’ll be rolling out a new project here at this site, and it’s one that I’m incredibly excited about. It’s a group blog by student government leaders for student government leaders about students, student government, and the campus.

I’ll be facilitating the project, so a quick introduction is in order. I’m a young historian of student government and student activism — I just got my PhD last year, and I teach at the City University of New York. I also run the Student Activism blog, a site that chronicles the student organizing of today. I owe all of this to my own involvement in student government as an undergraduate — that was the launching pad for my career in teaching, research, and organizing.

I’ll be posting news and information about student government fairly regularly on this site, but the real meat of the project will be posts from students active in student government today. Those posts, the first of which will be published here in a few days, will make this site a place where student government leaders can share ideas, learn about what’s going on at other campuses, and support each others’ work.

There’s a lot more to come, including Twitter chats, a Facebook community, and more. Like I say, this is really going to be exciting. If you’re interested in getting involved as an active contributor of the project, just say the word — the envelope below my profile at right is an email link.
